The World is a Picture
To me Google Maps is not just a helpful tool to get around, but an endless source of striking textures and compositions. As a designer I have a special fascination for organic patterns like these, but I would argue that playing with these images will entertain anyone.
I stripped Google Maps from its usual interface, and presented a handful of empty designs for you to play with. You can still drag, zoom and swipe like you would normally, but this time, without street labels and city names, you can focus exclusively on the visual result of your framing.
By clicking the arrows below the designs, you can browse through some curated compositions I found interesting.
The fact that these images depict the world we all live in is astonishing. But if these images were just random shapes and colors, it would still be worth exploring.
All satellite images displayed on this page are screenshots from Google Maps.
